Congress Gets Busy On Oil, Gas Issues

The newly elected Republican Congress is moving quickly in their effort to pass energy legislation that has been stuck in recent years. Congress Gets Busy On Oil, Gas Issues By: Alex Mills (Texas Allaince of Energy Producers) For the first time since Barack Obama became President, Republicans took control of the U.S. House and Senate, and they wasted no time in taking on some of the energy issues that have been languishing in the Congress for years. Senate Republicans made good on a pledge to pass the long-pending Keystone XL oil pipeline on Jan. 29. Senators voted 62-36 on the bill to bypass the Obama administrations delaying tactics on the Keystone XL, only 5 short of the number needed to override a presidential veto, which is expected. All Republicans present voted for the bill, as did nine Democrats. Keystone XL President Corey Goulet said in an interview Thursday that the process will be procedural rather than a new, in-depth review of the project. The Canadian company seeking to build

The Keystone XL pipeline is in its sixth year of debate, and Nebraskas Supreme Court is hearing argument about Governor Dave Heinemans 2012 decision to bless a route for the pipeline. The Courts decision will restart a bureaucratic process in both Nebraska and Washington. Nebraska court hears questions about Keystone XL pipeline plan By: Carson Vaughan LINCOLN, Nebraska, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Nebraskas Supreme Court heard arguments on Friday about whether Governor Dave Heineman acted properly when he blessed a route for the Keystone XL oil pipeline, and the courts decision could weigh on the controversial project. A lawyer for landowners who may be in the pipelines path hoped to persuade the seven-member panel that Heineman overreached and that a decision on the route should be left to an independent state agency. The 30-minute hearing played out in the courts somber wood-paneled chamber. Keystone opponents who watched the proceedings from an adjacent room, were not so subdued. It
